Arthur is standing next to a model he built of a mine shaft timber work and the pumping and winding arrangement. The pump rod is clearly visible, the top of which would have been attached to the nose of the beam engine. This model demonstrates the timber shafting, the pump rod, the pump at the base. For general information on early mine pumps, engines, and operations, see the Wikipedia article

Bervie United Church, Ontario, Canada previously Bervie Methodist Church.
Status: LocatedThis church was erected intially by a Methodist Congregation. It served the Bermie Methodist congregation as a log building between 1865 and 1870 and became a brick building and served from 1882 to 1925. It became a United Church congregation when the United Church was founded in 1925 as a merger of four Christian denominations: the then-largest and second-largest Protestant denominations in Canada, the Presbyterian Church in Canada and the Methodist Church of Canada; the Congregational Union of Ontario and Quebec, a numerically less significant but historically important denomination of evangelical Protestantism; and the Association of Local Union Churches.
