Born in Leeds Quebec, he went to Vermilion, Alberta to homestead with his father but was unsuccessful and returned to Okotoks, Alberta to operate a dray business (1926-1940). After marrying Merle, they moved to Black Diamond, Alberta. He was an oilfield worker in Turner Valley, Alberta.
Obituary
Hugh Alexander Patterson, 68, of Black Diamond, died in the Calgary General Hospital Friday, Sept. 12, after a lengthy illness. Born in Leeds, Que., he came to the Okotoks district in 1900. He also resided at Nanton, Langdon, Alliance and Black Diamond, as well as in Okotoks. He spent his early years farming and later worked for the Madison Natural Gas Co. at Turner Valley. He was a member of the United Church and was particularly active in curling.
Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, Merle; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Hadden of Calgary and Mrs. W. (Myrtle) Ruby of Chilliwack, B.C.; a son and two daughters at home, Arthur, 15, Donna, 14 and Joan, 9; and one sister, Mrs. Victoria Bradshaw of Okotoks. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eva, in 1940.
Funeral services were held September 16 at the Black Diamond United Church conducted by Rev. Mr. Hunt of Calgary and Rev. Mr. Adams of Black Diamond. Burial was in Okotoks cemetery.
Pallbearers were Walter Tubb, Joe Briggs, Vester Shield, Marion Mitchell, Jack Murdy and James Price.
