entry found in Earl Close's writings, "The Family of Florence Myrtle Morgan": (no source cited, sounds like newspaper obituary) The funeral of the late James Colwell, aged 73 years, whose death occurred on Wednesday, January 21, 1914, took place last Friday from his late residence, corner of Gibbons Street and Britannia Road to Maitland Cemetary. Reverend W.K. Hager officiating. The deceassed passed away rather suddently, and while he had been ailing for the past seven years, his family did not expect the end so soon. The late Mr. Colwell was born and lived in Goderich for a number of years. About 21 years ago, he moved here where he has since resided. During that time he has made many friends who regret his demise. About 10 years ago he sat in the town council chamber for about three terms. He was a conservative in Politics and a Methodist in religion, and attended the North Street Methodist church. Beside his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ida Fraser of Goderich and Mrs. Haley of Toronto, two brothers, John and George of Kincardine, and two sisters, Mrs. William Stirling of Bayfield, and Mrs. K. Armstrong f Victoria B. C. and two granddaughters - Miss Marion Fraser teacher in Victoria school and Lillian Fraser a commercial teacher in G. C. I. The funeral was largely attended and bearers were J.H.Colborne, C.downing, Robert McLean, David Clark, Robert Elliott, Thomas Johnson.
