  Notes	Date: 2008 Note: She was one of the very first women streetcar conductors in Cornwall. She served on the car that ran between Redruth and Camborne. She was employed in this capacity during World War I when many of the men in Cornwall were in the military service. It is said that at the age of 16 Laura had all her teeth removed for aesthetic reasons and lived all of the rest of her life with a full set of false teeth. After she left the streetcar service she went to work as a domestic housekeeper for a “Miss Jane'. It was during this time that she met Peter Oatey, who at the time, was employed as a Police Officer.
