Listed as a resident with parents, although he was married to Mary Jane in 1898. Mary Jane is listed as a boarder with her parents in 1901, and there is no evidence of Orland in the Census. Joseph may have been away from home often if a lumberman, and maybe they spent time at both parents in the first couple of years. BIOGRAPHY: 1901 his parents were living on the North half of Lot 4 on Consession 3, Northumberland East, Seymour Township. in a 6 room wooden home on 100 acres with one barn. BERTRAND CAMPBELLFORD,March 19 (By Examiner Staff Correspondent). - Joseph Bertrand,prominent Seymour township farmer and well known resident of the district,died in the Belleville General Hospital on Thursday,March 17 in his 64th year. The guest of his sister,Mrs. Thomas Ramsey,Belleville,for the past two weeks,he was taken suddenly ill the early part of this week,necessitating his removal to the hospital where he passed away. Born in Seymour township the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bertrand,he farmed for many years in the Meyersburg district,making however,the town of Campbellford his centre, in which place he received his education. He was a staunch member of Meyersburg United Church. He is survived by three sons,Orland,Everett and Melvin of Campbellford; a daughter,Rose at home; two brothers,Albert and Gus of Campbellford; and five sisters,Mrs. James Bradley,Port Elgin; Mrs. Robert Hensley, Carman,Man.; Mrs. Arthur Blue,Welland; Mrs. Robt. Miller,Norham; and Mrs. Thomas Ramsay of Belleville. The remains came from Belleville for interment on Friday,the funeral service being arranged for Sunday at 2.30 from the family residence with interment in Havelock Cemetery. The Rev. D.R. Clare of Norham assisted by the Rev. L.M. Smith of Campbellford will officiate.

• Documents » Slide Show		Obituary - Joseph Nelson Bertrand - 1932 Belleville, March 17. (Special.) Joseph Nelson Bertrand of Campbellford died at the Belleville General Hospital this morning. He had been visiting with his sister, Mrs. Thomas Ramsay, College Street, when his illness required his removal to the hospital. Mr. Bertrand was a farmer. He was born in Seymour Township, the son of late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bertrand, and was in his sixty-fourth year. He had made Campbellford his home for some time. He was a member of the United Church at Mayersburg. A large family survives: three sons, Orland, Everett and Melvin, of Campbellford; a daughter, Rose, at home; two brothers, Albert and Gus of Campbellford; and five sisters, Mrs. James Bradley, Port Elgin; Mrs. Robert Hensley, Carman, Man.; Mrs. Arthur Blue, Welland; Mrs. Robert Miller, Norham, and Mrs. Thomas Ramsay of .?.
